Brockwell Live Event

The Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) teams covered the Brockwell Live events at Brockwell Park between May 26 and June 11. The two teams were tasked with patrolling alongside other teams to identify issues such as illegal trading, safety, overcrowding, and protecting and preventing any VAWG matters. The teams were able to provide support and assistance where necessary.

The VAWG team were able to spot a lone woman walking along Dulwich Road towards Herne Hill, who seemed flustered and in a state of panic. When approached by the team they offered her help as her phone had died and she was unable to find her car, and as a result she was being harassed by men in the area. By using a phone map, they were able to find her vehicle and safely escorted her to her car, possibly preventing her from further risks.

A portaloo location with a high volume of footfall was another hot spot for harassment as these were unattended with no staff or security nearby - meaning men were able to loiter and harass the women who were using them. The team spotted a few men and made their presence known which deterred them from continuing with their activities leaving the women to use the facilities safely.

Brockwell Live 2023 was an overall success and we look to increase the number of active VAWG wardens within the festivals, with hotspot locations having extra security for the safety of attendees.

Thanks,
